Red Bank (NJ) Theater Company Hosts August Wilson Classic

Trains resizedTwo Trains Running, the fifth installment in playwright August Wilson’s series of American plays centered around the black experience, was first produced at Yale Repertory Theater under the auspices of artistic director (the late) Lloyd Richards. It later moved to Broadway, again under the direction of Richards, in April 1992 and garnered critical acclaim for actor Laurence Fishburne and numerous award nominations for his fellow actors as well as praise for the production itself.

New Jersey’s Two River Theater in Red Bank, once again plays host to an August Wilson classic and, once again, solicited the capable talents of actor/director Ruben Santiago-Hudson. The play has already been extended a week, so if you are in the  Jersey area you might want to get your tickets soon as the production may soon sell out.

Set in Memphis Lee’s restaurant in the Hill District of Pittsburgh in 1969, Two Trains Running stars Harvy Blanks (West), Anthony Chisholm (Hambone), John Earl Jelks (Wolf), Owiso Odera (Sterling), Roslyn Ruff (Risa), James A. Williams (Holloway) and Chuck resizedone of my favorite stage actors Chuck Cooper (Memphis) who is currently on one of ABC’s top TV shows, Scandal.

Two River Theater, under the leadership of Artistic Director John Dias and Managing Director Michael Hurst, is dedicated to producing great classics from the American and world stage, creating new plays and musicals for the American theater, and serving its diverse and multi-generational community through unique partnerships and education programs. Founded in 1994 by Joan and Dr. Robert M. Rechnitz, the theater supports the most exceptional and adventurous artists in the American theater and provides opportunities for its audiences to be part of the creative process.
