My Dear Readers;

I want to bring you some goomiscd news today — ELECTION DAY (Tuesday, November 8, 2016). The good news is that, no matter what happens, no matter the outcome, we will survive. We as Americans, we as members of individual groups who have been called out during this bitter campaign: Muslims, gays, women, Mexicans, the Blacks, persons with handicaps and others…in the end, we will survive. Our survival, however, depends on our resilience and the knowledge that we hold the power over our own lives. That despite everything we’ve seen and heard, when situations arise that don’t meet with our expectations, that work against our moral compass or are downright wrong, we have the power to change things. We have the power of the pen…to write oupres-elecr State and Congressional Representatives…constantly…and to get our friends, family members and colleagues to do so. We have the power of the vote…to vote on every level of government from the local school board, mayoral campaigns, the governorship, etc. We have the power of our voices…to attend meetings, focus groups, town halls and think tanks to fearlessly express our opinions, regardless of how others may accept or reject them. Your opinion is one of two things (many things actually) that everybody has! We have the power to march in the streets, on city hall, etc. to make our convictions known. It all begins with us. We need a change in consciousness….a paradigm shift. Out with the old thinking that we’re helplessly held hostage by bad politics and bad politicians, and in with the discovery that change begins with us. I had a great conversation with a friend the other day about the fact that we don’t hold our politicians’ feet to the fire. She’s right. They’re not rock stars, they’re community servants….all of them. We must keep them reminded of that, and if they don’t like it….throw the bastards out!
